In response, I found this post on the web in which someone was asking what the effect of Exact Software's purchase of Longview Solutions (the maker of Khalix) would be:

"Does anyone have any insight beyond the press releases of Exact Software's purchase of Longview? Is this a technology purchase or a market share move? How long will Longview's software be supported?"

Longview has long been funded by investment bankers looking for a return on their money. Given that many of Khalix's main competitors (Brio, Adaytum and only two days ago Cognos) have recently been bought up at a premium by some of the larger firms looking to build market share, it is only natural that these investors would be interested in pursuing this route.

In July of 2005, Longview's board replaced the perhaps more managerial President Matt Townley with new lead Mark Burton. Mark's background was that of a lawyer with M&A experience and it should come as no surprise that his track record was that of selling companies. Among other things, he was previously the President and CEO of AD OPT Technologies, which was acquired by Kronos, Inc in 2004, which was the same year Mark joined Longview's board.

What does this have to do with the future? Well, on the performance side (of its Khalix Performance Management Software), Longview has long sought to break into the European theatre, opening an office in London several years back, which did okay, and more recently its listed European headquarters in Spain. The purchase by Delft-based Exact, therefore, could well help them make in-roads into this valuable marketplace. It would also allow them to offset some of their US business currency exchange issues with the more powerful Euro.

Consequently, the prevailing word is that Exact will not attempt to change the Khalix product but will rather add them to their bottom line income and hopefully improve their comparatively undersized marketing team.
